Housing
A mix of historic bungalows and Victorians in Boylan Heights, new apartments in the Warehouse District, and more affordable older housing south of downtown.
Getting around
Union Station connects to Amtrak’s Piedmont and Carolinian lines. The Rocky Branch greenway is a great bike link west.
A little history
Rail lines shaped this area from the 1800s. Dix Hill, the state hospital campus championed by Dorothea Dix, opened in 1856 and closed in 2012; the city bought it in 2015 for a public park.
Living here
Residents love the walkability to downtown and Dix Park. Expect active construction as the district grows.
Visiting for the first time
Lunch in the Warehouse District, then bike or walk to Dix Park for the skyline at golden hour.
The sunflowers
Each summer Dix Park’s sunflower field blooms for a couple of weeks and becomes one of the most photographed places in the state.
